In conjunction with Cal Hi Sports, the foundation provides two to three athletes who have overcome adversity scholarships each year. 19 for Life awards young adults who are/have battled cancer/health issues and provides them with financial aid to help them continue with their post high school education.

The DJ endowment at Bellarmine College Prep initially began by a group of generous Bellarmine families. 19 for Life donates to the endowment each year. Through the foundation, a scholarship is given to a current sophomore or junior student/athlete attending BCP who needs financial support to complete his Jesuit education at the school. The Jesuits at the school recommend the student who should receive the help.

The Lexus Volunteer Scholarship Awards were started in 2013 as a way to honor five extraordinary young individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions as they strive to make a difference in the world around them.

In 2020 19 for Life started the DJ Frandsen Men’s Basketball Memorial Scholarship at Santa Clara University.  DJ was most proud of being a part of the Men’s Basketball program under Coach Dick Davey as the manager of the team. The winner chosen by the basketball staff will be the team manager who displays the same devotion to the sport and competitive spirit which DJ demonstrated throughout his time at SCU.

The foundation recognizes students who have been through financial hardship and maintained a high level of integrity while, “Going the Distance and Never Giving Up.”

Recognizing Diego Zavala

Diego was a senior at Willow Glen High School who has overcome may surgeries in his young life. He was born without a fibula in his right leg. Despite the fact the Diego took public transportation to school, sometimes on crutches/wheelchair, he never had a tardy issue. He also challenged himself to Advance Placement classes and had a 4.1 GPA at WGHS. Diego is looking forward to attending UCLA in the fall. Congratulations to Diego for Never Giving Up and Going the Distance!
